The coronavirus is spreading all over the world. I did a video back at the beginning of January 2020, I said this is going to hit us hard, locksmiths, be prepared. Now it’s here, they’re shutting down borders, they’re stopping flights. It is affecting business. In some areas, we’ve had big drops in our business. But now we’re seeing an increase in other parts of the businesses and this is an opportunity for locksmiths. Public events are shutting down but now they want to restrict more access and they’re rekeying the locks to stop people from going into other areas. Seniors homes, they now have to restrict access because of the coronavirus and they are rekeying all their exterior doors. So there are huge opportunities.


Businesses are more vulnerable. We just had a bunch of churches got broken into because they’re not as busy with shutting down community events so they’re quiet and the burglars can’t bust into the homes because everybody’s home so now they’re breaking into churches. I’m just gonna leave right now, I’m going to a church and we’re gonna have to secure it down.

Locksmiths, you can do a couple of things. You can cocoon up and just ride it out or you can go out there and help secure your community and make some money too.

They are shutting down borders, shutting down air flights but is an opportunity, locksmiths. Go out there, be prepared, do some basic stuff call your clients, give them some security ideas. They are fearful, they need some expert guidance.

Mr. Locksmith Tests 5+ Car Key Programmers on 2014 Ford Mustang Mr. Locksmith™

I am going to  program in a key to a Ford Mustang. This is a 2014 Ford Mustang. We’re going to use a 2014 Ford Mustang, and we’re going to program automotive keys into the Ford. Always test your car first with a mechanical key, if it works, the ignition turns it, of course it won’t start it ’cause it’s a transponder, and then we make keys using our transponder key, and we’re gonna program it in. Right now, the mechanical key is perfect, transponder key, perfect. Now, let’s check it in the ignition. Put the key in the ignition, and of course it is not going start the car. But that’s cool. Put the transponder key, I’ve got it good, okay.

Let’s hook up the programing. So right now, I’m gonna use the Zed-Full, and we’re gonna program in our functional key. Okay, so I’ve plugged in the OBD II plug. Zed-Full is nice, sits on the steering wheel. That’s what I like about this one. Put the ignition key in, and we’ll start programming. Erase all keys, we can add a key, add two keys. Usually a 10-minute wait. We’ll test the key. And the sound of power, and we just made some money. A key program gonna use right now is the Auto ProPad. This is surprising, been one of our go-to machines. Right now it’s very very effective, let’s see how it does on the 2014 Mustang. We’re gonna program a key. Okay, we’re plugging it in the OBD II. This is the Auto ProPad. The key is in. Pretty simple menu. It should bypass, and success. And let’s give it a try. In position. There’s no 10 minute, it does the 10 minute bypass nicely. And success. Perfect. Let’s just try the other key. It starts the car perfectly. Auto ProPad, pass. Gonna use The MVP to program a 2014 Mustang transponder key. So this is The MVP Pro and has the super dongle. We’re just gonna plug into the OBD II port. Now there are two ways this thing comes in, it’s per token, or you get a monthly on it. We put on the security code. Now we wanna put the key in. Let’s see if it starts the car. And it’s perfect. And again, with this one you can add a key, erase keys. If you erase keys, you got to have two master keys ready to go. Okay, gonna use the IM100 to program the 2014 Ford Mustang. So this is the IM100, let’s see how it does. We’re gonna plug in the IM100 into the OBD II. Tell me when to click the key in. Now the IM100 will not do the bypass on the 10 minute bypass. So we have to actually wait 10 minutes, so we’re just going to let it cycle through for 10 minutes, and then we’ll see if it starts the car. Okay, let’s see if it works. Okay, IM100 works. But, it’s a 10 minute wait time. Unfortunately, it will not bypass in this version. Maybe the newer versions do but this is an older version, we’ll get our hands on the new version and see what happens. Okay, let’s program the Mustang with X-100. I’ll just plug it in, let’s see what happens. Typed everything down, let’s see if we got a communication now. No. Let’s give it a second try here, see if we can communicate. We typed everything up, we’ve plugged it in. Again, this is not never on of our main, it’s a backup to the backup to the backup. When everything else doesn’t fail, you start going through your backup machines. As we talked before, you need two machines for sure, key programmers. So, failed to communicate. We have a fail. We’re gonna program key to the 2014 Mustang. This is a SKP-900. Bought this, it has a highly rated for Nissan. So we bought it, knocked off a few Nissans, it was good. Let’s try it on the Mustang. SKP-900, turned it on, it’s all plugged into the OBD II. See how we go, old-style menu. Bypass the 10 minute or close onto the 10 minute. Okay, SKP-900, it wouldn’t do the 10 minute bypass. We waited for 10 minutes. And it is successful. So, but, we had to wait 10 minutes. Most of the car programmers can add a key, add a transponder key to the system. Most, if not all, were able to bypass the 10 minute wait time, which is a huge saving in times. As you can see, one just totally failed to communicate. We tried everything, had good luck with that on Hondas, didn’t do well on this 2014 Mustang. I’m gonna try all of these on several more Fords, and we’ll see how they do in other videos. Welcome back, this is “How to become an Automotive Locksmith.”

I have been making keys to cars the day I got my driver’s license, at 16 years old and one day. I got my driver’s license and the first thing I did was load up the trunk of the car with tools so I could go out there and make keys to cars. I was opening cars like crazy, I’m only 16, we had a family locksmith business, so I’m opening up cars. It was so easy, back in those days, a slim jim, a flat piece of band steel we made, and a coat hanger. And I had a chrome-plated coat hanger because people got upset if I took their coat hanger and opened up their door, with the button. I made a little shepherd’s hook and opened it, they got mad and they didn’t want to pay, but if I took out this shiny, chrome coat hanger and opened up their door, they just thought I was a genius. I’ve been doing this a long time, been making keys to cars, and actually, it was very easy, when I was a kid, and teenager, and then into my 20s, cars were a mechanical key. If you had the keys, a lot of the automotive had the key codes, it was a fun business and not too many people did it. Which brings us to nowadays, and automotive locksmithing. We have transponder keys, we have chips within the keys, now we have prox keys that don’t even require you to plug it into the car. You just put it in your pocket, go up to your car. I got a brand new Toyota, go up into my, just walk up to the door, pull it, pull the door handle, it opens up, I sit in the car, I push the button, and away I go. Now some people say this creates less opportunity for locksmiths, but the dealers are extremely expensive. Sometimes, we’re about the same price, but the customer doesn’t have to tow the car. We can go onsite, make keys to the car. It’s becoming more complex, but it’s actually becoming a little bit easier. You can now plug into the vehicles, and make keys to it and program our keys. So automotive locksmithing, even though it’s more complex, has become extremely more profitable. To make keys to some of the new cars, the customers are looking at hundreds, or sometimes thousands of dollars from the dealership. So we can make keys to cars way less than the dealerships. Sometimes we have the same price, but a lot of times we’re more convenient, we show up, plus we’re seven days a week, 24 hours a day if you want to do that, as well.   1. Disconnect the power to the garage door.
  2. A bolt or padlock in the Garage door track / rails.

Hi, I’m Terry from Mr. Locksmith Garage Door Repair Maple Ridge. In this video, I’m going to show you how to secure your home garage door. There are very simple methods, when you go away on vacation, to secure your home garage door, and make it safe. So you’re going on vacation. What’s the simplest way to secure your garage door?

The simplest way is to just disconnect your garage door. No power, nobody can use anything to open up this garage door, using keypads or remotes or whatever. So the simplest method to secure your garage door just pulls the plug. Simple, to the point, done.

What you’re trying to do is prevent them from forcing the garage door open. So if you put a bolt in here, it’s gonna secure it pretty good too. Or put your padlock to secure it. So again, just padlock, you can have it keyed to the house. Of course, I have Abloys, I’ve got lots of Abloys. So again, you have a… Just a bolt in the hole here, stops the roller from going up. Or put a padlock in, stops somebody from breaking into your house, opening up your door, and pulling your stuff out. So again, secure, padlock… You can do one on each side, or just one does the trick. The good thing with this is it stops them from, slows them down, from forcing the door open. But also, if they do bust into your house, they can’t take all your stuff out the garage door, which is pretty popular. A bolt would do the trick, padlocked is best. Of course, I like my Abloy padlocks. Another way of securing your garage door. I like to get a bigger pair, I can’t find them right now. But if something, this is quick. You just want to be above the roller. Put a vice grip in there. Lock her down. Bigger pair is better. You can run one of these, two of these, do whatever. Short, fast, vice grips. Bolt in there or padlock in there. Does the trick.

How to program a remote control

Here are the basic steps for programming a remote control to a garage door opener.

Program Using Your Garage Door Opener LEARN Button

  1. Locate the LEARN button on the garage door opener.
  2. Press and immediately release the LEARN button. The LEARN LED will glow steadily.
  3. Within 30 seconds, press the button on the remote control that you wish to operate your garage door.
  4. The garage door opener lights will flash or two clicks will be heard. The remote control is programmed.

Be sure to clear the garage door area of any obstructions.

There is a lot of electric picks to choose from. Also, lots of garbage out there. In my opinion, it boils down to these three, and it really depends upon your budget, and what you’re doing.

DINO: It is Chinese made. It is the Dino and is very good. It’s really nice holding a pick, gun-style. I like this. It’s offshore made, I sort of have some problems with that, but it’s held up pretty good in the classroom, with lots of locksmith students. So this is a good choice. You can check my links online. It’s a good product. It’s okay, I like it. I do use it.

KRONOS: This is the Kronos, made in Germany. This is phenomenal. It’s actually extremely well-made. It’s very, very effective. This is gonna last you a long time in your kit. I have no problems at all with the quality, how it’s made. I love the battery in this. It’s absolutely fantastic. It’s good for an hour after you charge it, and you get two batteries. You’re good for two hours of picking. That’s gonna last you a good week, or a couple weeks depending upon how busy you are. It’s great. It’s very well made, and it holds nicely. I love it.

WENDT: The Rolls-Royce is the Wendt. It’s good for almost any lock in the world. It’s got a lot of adjustments. It’s extremely expensive. For service trucks, with locksmiths, you can’t go wrong with this. For the price, and everything else, this is it. What I would recommend, everybody has this one. This is good, but again I don’t like the quality of most offshore stuff. The Germans make fantastic picks, electric picks.

The Kronos is the go-to for in the truck, every day, in my toolbox. When I’ve got those jobs that are very high-end, that have to go in, of course, I’ve got this, but this is my backup for everything else. If you have to worry about different parts of the world, this is it. They’re great, but they’re not meant for covert. There are some special models that are quiet, but for the locksmiths, it even Locksport. These things put everything to shame. This is my number one chase for locksmiths, or if you are into Locksport, if you can cheat and get away with this.

For locksmiths, we are not cheating. We just want to get in, we’re for profit. They’re all moneymakers. They will make you money. And I think these two will last you a long time, Let’s see how they do against a wide range of locks from all over the world.

This is one of my puzzle locks and it is fun to open. The solid brass puzzle padlock is made of solid brass and weighs 1 kilogram.

To open it is more complex than it appears; it requires a more careful inspection to unlock it. Find the right combination of moves and keys to open it. The lock is handmade and from India.

 

The puzzle locks were originally made if you were an apprentice locksmith, to prove your skills, you had to make a lock, a chest or a lock or padlock, and three master locksmiths would evaluate your lock. One of the main points was how quickly they could open your lock.

Teaching My Daughter How To Become A Locksmith – Take Your Kids To Work Day

Does your son or daughter want to become a locksmith? My daughter, Hazel is a highly intelligent girl with many skills so I asked my daughter Hazel to join me and learn skills such as how to pick a lock and how to cut a key for “Take Your Kids to Work Day.”

Picking a lock does require skill, but they are skills you can learn with practice. I do teach the same skills I’ve taught Hazel, and additional locksmithing skills over at my 1-day classes and 4-day classes available at MrLocksmithTraining.com.
