The BK3 is a design collaboration between Ethan Becker of BK&T and John Benner of TDI, the Tac Tool smashes, bashes, pries, hammers and cuts. It is equally powerful at lifting stubborn hinge pins, prying open doors or windows, and hammering out glass as it is efficient at cutting 550 cord. A partially serrated edge makes cutting looped and synthetic materials a breeze. MOLLE compatible hard plastic sheath included. Becker Knives “Work for a living”. Made in the USA

The Fixed Blade on the BK3 Becker TacTool by Becker Knife & Tool of KA-BAR® is made from 1095 CRO-VAN Steel and features a Flat grind. 1095 CRO-VAN steel is an easy to sharpen, plain carbon steel used in knife making. Proven to be one of the most popular steels used in KA-BAR Knives

Becker BK3

In this video, I am going to talk about the Becker BK3 or Becker Tac Tool.  It is a utility knife or a tactical knife, whatever you want to call it, we’ll just show you. What does it have to do with locksmithing? Or more importantly, forced entry for police? This does not replace the traditional bars and stuff to bash down doors, get through doors. This is not a covert tool, but it’s a good tool for police to have for if they’re part of a tech tactical team, in my opinion, or if you’re involved with a search, with a search warrant, of course, and you have some minor locks to defeat. So again, we push the covert entry, but this is kind of interesting ’cause just take a look at this. There’s a beast. So this is not an unboxing because I got just the other day I ran across a police unit using one of these and I thought I have to have one and I have to play with it. So I went and bought one. What’s the first thing I do with it? I hack away at a SentrySafe, so we will show that video. So I, a little later, we’ll have a couple of days, but it’s a monster. It’s very, very thick. You know, the handle feels good. This is not a hunting knife. I wouldn’t even call it a camping knife. I’m gonna show three tools that I think are really useful for the average police to have, you know, in the back of your car, in a MOLLE pack. And this is one of three little force tools. So this is the biggest force tool. This does not replace your more traditional police entry tools, which really just copy the firemen. The firemen have fantastic tools for breaching doors. The police have a lot of interesting tools, too. This does not replace the traditional tools. Once you’re inside and you’re running across some interior doors, bedroom doors, bedroom locks, small safes, small drawers, again, it’s a forced entry tool. You can beat on the end if you’ve got a hammer or some stuff. We take a look at it. It’s the Becker BK3. And there are lots of online stores selling it. It’s a great tool. For locksmiths, we’re not gonna show up with this. Sometimes we’re involved in, the police who have already done a forced entry. Then they call us up to open stuff inside. Again, I wouldn’t use it. I can pick the locks.

Locked Out? Call Mr. Locksmith Maple Ridge and we will use our lock picks and not the BK#

So for locksmiths and police could use this, too. Sometimes it’s just quicker, faster. Just cut it off. We have a cordless grinder with a cutting wheel. Super fast. The drill, also known as the rotary pick. We use that. So, but that’s traditional locksmithing tools when we have to step it up. We can’t pick it. We don’t have time to pick it. We can bring in these tools. So would a locksmith use this? Not really. But I have it in my kit just for the fun of it. For police? Yes. And combined with the two other locksmith tools which will have follow-up videos. For in the back of your police car, have it there. Smash out a window? Wow, this is like, we’re gonna go to a wrecking yard. We’re gonna knock out a few windows on cars. This thing just hacks right through them. Very quick. And then clean up the glass, of course. So, a force tool. Interesting. It’s got a knife on the edge. It’s got a pretty sharp edge. You can baton on this. It’s so big. It’s got the chiseled front. This could actually slip. It’s a little bit too thick, but it can actually slip some latches. So if you have a key and knob lock, you could slip it with this. Some small padlocks, you could just hack away at it. Like I said, I took this to a SentrySafe and it’s amazing how well it did. The only part that we, that I don’t really like on this, I would call it the seat belt cutter. It didn’t really cut some seat belts too good. It was okay. There’s better tools for cutting seat belts. This was pretty sharp here and it’s got the segregated blade on it. This chops through rope, wood. Even I took some band steel, some small band steel and just cut it. You can see the finish has held up pretty good considering how bad I treated it. Again, I think this is the weak point for a pry bar. I think it will snap there, but I think you really gotta pull at it to snap it. It’s not gonna just snap. But if I had to do with some of my other tools, which I’ll show ya. I mean, if I have to wedge the door a little bit, put in one of my slip tools to slip the latch back, small deadbolts, it’d probably just pop it back. Desk locks, it’ll open it in seconds. It’s an interesting tool. I like it. It was fun when I saw it in action for the first time and I thought I have to have one of these. So I have it. And I’ll show some more videos with it in use. And I’ll show two more little tools I like to put with this, and which makes it a good all round forced entry tool. Again, not really for locksmiths. Law enforcement’s gonna have a fun time with this. Yes, you have better tools, bigger tools, but for just attach this to your MOLLE pack with the couple extra little tools, and you have yourself a nice little entry kit. Stay tuned for more videos on this in use and a couple more little forced entry tools. I hope you enjoyed watching this video. Subscribe to my channel. Also visit my website and you can see what online locksmith training I have for beginners, intermediate and advanced, as well as my covert methods of entry and my non-destructive methods of entry.

You can see in the video how the door reinforcer goes right around the edge of the door, the back of the door. We have the good, Schlage 600 series deadbolt in there. It’s a commercial grade reinforce door with schlage deadbolt installation. Same locks used in hospitals, schools and Universities and it doesn’t look like a monster lock. It fits in well. Some people like the full plate down here. We never install the deadbolts below the handle, hate it. Deadbolts always go here or higher. This was just, we took out the old Weiser deadbolt, or light-duty deadbolt, we put in a heavy-duty deadbolt. And this will make the door harder to kick in and again some, some people sometimes ill put the full plate. This customer just wanted that plate and again the door is way harder to kick in-

The new Schlage Everest lock system has 6 pins. It’s got the side pin, really hard to pick, hard to bump and difficult to pick. Actually, we don’t have a good time picking these.

There is the plate. You have the 3-inch screw and screw all the way into the stud. It’s a well-built house so it’s got the good frame and now that will make the doorway harder to kick in Door Reinforcement Schlage Deadbolt Lock

The Schlage C123 or S123 key and cylinder is a 6 pin Schlage and very hard to pick open but not impossible. It is not rated as pick-resistant. Cheaper to Rekey or Replace Locks

Whether you just moved into a new home or have been in the same house for a while, it might be a good time for you to look into changing your locks.

Every day I get asked should I rekey my locks or replace them? Re-keying your locks, if you have good locks, it’s pretty inexpensive. We just re-key the lock so the old key doesn’t fit it. So we take the lock off, re-key it, put it in, give you brand new keys. The old key will go in the lock but it won’t turn the lock. That’s re-keying. So re-keying is usually less expensive. So most locks can be re-keyed. Residential, business, commercial, everything. Most locks can be re-keyed. Residential and commercial locks The deadbolts and the key in knobs. We can re-key them. We can change the combination inside and give you new keys. If you have a good lock and it’s less expensive than replacing them. However, if you have some old, crappy locks or inexpensive or you want to increase the security of your locks, then we will replace the lock and sell you a new one and install it.

Rekey Locks

Re-keying is simple. It’s very fast. It doesn’t take long for us to do it. And we can re-key regular locks, high-security locks, some padlocks can be re-keyed but most can’t, they’re sealed units. Re-keying your locks is pretty inexpensive compared to replacing them. Also, it doesn’t take a lot of time, 15 minutes we can re-key a basic lock. Sometimes they take a little bit longer, sometimes quicker. Just depends upon the lock and how old it is and what style of lock it is. Some of the high security locks can take quite a while to re-key. But again, it’s less expensive. You don’t have to change your locks. You don’t have to install brand new ones. We can just re-key your existing locks.

How to Open a Frozen Lock | Mr. Locksmith Maple Ridge

How to Open a Frozen Lock | Mr. Locksmith Maple Ridge

Mr. Locksmith Maple Ridge: (604) 259-7616

How to Open a Frozen Lock Maple Ridge: The most common cause of the locks being frozen if people have washed their car so that the whole door’s frozen.

The Polar Vortex is causing below freezing temperatures and winter storms across Canada and the US. Winter storms can bring cold temperatures, power failures and frozen locks.

The easiest, quickest way is you get some windshield lock de-icer or this is windshield and window de-icer. You can make your own. Basically, it is isopropyl alcohol aka rubbing alcohol. Just spray the whole sides of the car door. Spray the lock. Spray the sides. Spray all over. It is not going to hurt the car. Stinky, yes. Be careful it is extremely flammable. Just let it seep into the door cracks, handle and lock. You can change the bottle to it to a stream but get it right in there. Get it on everything, and then you can get the door open. You can make your own lock de-icer, as well as your windshield de-icer. For your lock de-icer just use this rubbing alcohol. This one is 91% isopropyl alcohol. This is great just for raw, lock de-icer. If you want to make some windshield de-icer, it works fantastic. Use two-thirds of the high-quality rubbing alcohol with one-third water. If you’re at home get your hairdryer. Plug it in. There are some 12-volt hair dryers. At home just plug it into an extension cord. Get the hairdryer going. You’re going to blow hot air all down the sides. This is another handy method. If you don’t have the lock de-icer, the windshield de-icer, get a hairdryer. Put an extension cord on it. Just sit there and just heat up the whole door, all the edges, all everything, as well as the lock. This works pretty well. Takes some time, but it works great. So I hope this has been of help to unfreeze your frozen car door or frozen lock you are locked out.

Frozen Do0r Locks? Call Mr. Locksmith Automotive

Frozen Hockey Puck Lock

Hockey Pucks locks are great for protecting your service truck or locksmith vehicle from Break and Enter attempts. However, in the winter the Hockey Pucks locks on your Locksmith Van or service truck ice up and the locks become frozen while driving in the snow or slush. Prevention is the number one so use WD-40 and spray the heck out of it. WD-40 is a penetrating oil, but it is also water displacement fluid. If your Hockey Puck lock t is iced up give it a few hits first with a rubber hammer then take your lock deicer. Eighty percent or more isopropyl alcohol is the best. Take the lock deicer, get it right in the keyhole, spread it all over it, and that should work where our key will now be able to go in and open it up. Prevention’s the best bet. Give the lock and keyway lots of WD-40, and it works really well to prevent the lock from frezzing. On my own Mr. Locksmith service truck I don’t mind using a butane lighter blowtorch. Just give the blowtorch a little twist, push and click and you get a nice hot flame. Just heat the hockey puck lock right up. Again, I wouldn’t do this on a customer’s. This is my own locksmith service truck. This will get the all unfrozen. And be careful, the lock can get really, really hot. The other way is to get a lighter, match, etc. to heat the lock or keyway. I have this little propane torch. Just heat your key up it doesn’t take long. Heat it up, and then you can start putting it into the lock. Another method to unfreeze the lock if you have nothing just heat the key with your hand, hold it in your hand, get it all heated up. It takes a long time, but if you have nothing, just use your hand. So again, if you have absolutely nothing, heat it with your hand. Just hold it in your hand, heat it up.

Weiser PowerBolt 1 Unboxing and Problems | Mr. Locksmith Maple Ridge

Mr. Locksmith Maple Ridge: (604) 259-7616

Weiser PowerBolt 1 Installaton

So the Weiser Powerbolt. And I don’t know if it is a good lock or bad lock, I’ll say that upfront. The reason the customer had problems was, the battery went dead. So the battery was dead on their Weiser bolt. So we got instructions, installation thing, little skinny little keypad, box of stuff. You know, the inside is not so small. Instructions is what’s in this should be the bolt. So, we have the bolt, this is if you wanna convert it to a drive-in latch. And we have a strike plate for the edge of the door, another plate, and our screws. Now this is different than a lot of the newer locks, we call it the D, this is still using the, just the little slot there. So the bolt is using just the slot. So it’s not your typical D, D latch on this one. And it’s adjustable. So it goes from 2 3/8″ to 2 3/4″ backset

You remember, does this say top? It doesn’t have top on it. Remember we call it Mickey mouse ears, the ears go on top. So that’s the top and it’s adjustable 2 3/8″ to 2 3/4″ backset. There is a different bolt than they have in there, in their other locks, more of an old, old style, but it’s still different. Oh, there’s the tailpiece, I said bits and pieces inside plate. Let’s see how it goes on. Okay. It’s got long screws, short screws, different thicks of doors. Takes four AA batteries and no batteries supplied. It didn’t say that on the box, Where are my batteries? Okay. I’ll just grab some batteries.

I got lots of batteries. Remember as locksmiths, always carry lots of fresh batteries. So here are no batteries, no big deal. We will play with that. Let’s throw in some width screws, to there. Remember, don’t crank these in all the way. It’s, we just want them snug. That’s all. That appears to go under. And, the cord from the exterior to the interior goes under the bolt, goes into the lower part and we’re gonna use the slightly longer screws. Okay. So that looks good. That’s not crimped. Here we go. Now, this is the interesting part. It says just fit that in there. Okay. Just fits in. Okay. Where does it go?

We’ve got that into there. So there’s nothing on the exterior of the tailpiece to activate the deadbolt, just slips in. Then we take the power supply or hook up the cable. Let’s get going, see if it fits. One of the big problems you have to have with all these locks is, do not crimp the cables, cause that’s a pain in the butt. So we have machine screws. Remember, use machine screws don’t use wood screws. I always have lots of batteries.

PowerBolt Batteries

The lock requires four (4) double-A batteries. Ooh, it’s happy. So right off the bat, I’ve always found these kinds of hard, if you’re doing the manually, it’s the, you think, I haven’t. The first time I installed the early, early versions of the Powerbolt, I thought I installed it wrong cause it was so hard turning that thumb turn. But that is normal. It’s not like a normal kind of lock. You don’t even feel the deadbolt going out, to the bolt itself, going out all the way. But it is going all the way. So, right off the bat that’s kind of hard, but not too hard.

PowerBolt 1 Instructions

Okay. I had to pull up the instructions. I can see why people hate these things. So from the inside, I have to hit the program. So the programming button is on the inside. So I guess you gotta be inside already to get this. There are different instructions for the left and the right. So this is left. Hit program. Two beeps. Press one-two. Press program again. I will hear one short beep. Now press in a four to eight-digit code. Didn’t like the last one, let’s do this. And then, press the program again. Now we hear one long beep. Okay. Let’s lock it. It locks. It unlocks. Lock it. Okay. Unlock it. Let’s see if it’ll handle another user code.

So we do a program, two beeps. Hit one-two. Press program again on the inside, one short beep. A four to eight-digit code. Let’s see if it’ll do this. One, two, three, four, then I press the program again. One long beep, successful. Okay. Let’s lock it. Then push the button. Okay. Now let’s lock it. The old number. Okay. It holds two numbers. So we can do, let’s just try this one more time and add another number. Press program. Press one-two, because it’s a left-hand lock. Press program again. And I’m gonna try one, two, three, four. Then I got to press program again. Nope. It didn’t like that.

It said three beeps, if you hear three beeps, it was unsuccessful. You know why you probably didn’t like the one-two, because this is left, by their, by there, this is a left. They call it a left walking latch. Well, that’s a bolt visor. It’s called a deadbolt. So it’s a left locking latch as per their instructions. So will, does not like the one two number, but it does like. Like that number. Lock again. And it likes That number. So if it’s a programming number, it doesn’t like that. So the other programming number, if it was the other way around, let’s see if it just locks that one out. Five six is considered a lock code number. So let’s just lock it. So we’re gonna program.

Press one-two, then press program again. Well, It liked that. Let’s try the number. Okay. So, because this is a, if I had to program it from original to a right hand, it won’t take one-two. But if I program it from here, it will take that as a programming code. Let’s just try one more programming code. So let’s just lock it. That’s it. Program. One two. Program. Didn’t like that, three beeps means wrong. The box and the instructions, I just took a quick look at it. I, it, I had to look at how many user codes of this handle. I had to go to the website to look it up and it will hold four user codes. They can be between, four or eight-digit, four to eight digits, whatever. So they don’t tell you that.

So it only holds four user codes. The instructions are poor. But we do know that if I, in theory, let’s try this. If I punch in, three times wrong, I’m locked out for 60 seconds. So if somebody is playing with it, gets locked out. Now I wonder, let’s try a proper code. Now it won’t let me try anything. What if I lock it and unlock it? No. It’s still locking us out for 60 seconds. Some of the locks, if you lock it, unlock it from the inside. So four user codes, 60-second lockout, if you do it three times in a row wrong.

Weiser PowerBolt 1 FAILS

I am going to remove the batteries and test the battery backup. Now, this is what, the first time we ran across this lock, the customer, the batteries were dead and the lock would not open. And, the interesting thing is you’re supposed to have a nine-volt battery. So let’s disconnect the battery. So, disconnect the battery. What’s kind of interesting is, and quite a few locks have this and some of them work really well.

This is a fresh battery. It’s a Duracell. It’s one we use all the time. Right under the nameplate is, cause there’s no key override so you locked out of this. There we go. Stick my battery on here. Okay. It seems to have a rear proper wedge, a little plus or minus but we can figure this out. Okay? Okay. So it does take, plus goes on that side. This is why I have boxes of smart key locks, smart locks. I got boxes of broken ones, because out of the box. Okay, we’re gonna, this is a fresh nine-volt.

Let’s grab another one. This is out of my alarm kit. So, these are good batteries. So we know we have the plus goes to here. Oh, don’t leave it, leave it running, leave it running. I find this fascinating. My, my camera guy is not liking this, but no no, keep it running. Let’s see. Okay. Just hooked up the battery. Okay. Okay. This is a real test here. So let’s lock it. Let’s disconnect all the, let’s just pretend the batteries are dead, I will disconnect them.

I remove all the batteries the lock is dead. We are locked out. You go there as per the instructions. I take my battery, nothing with that one. This one. Okay. Likes that one. Just in case, here you hold that. press it. It says, wait until it makes a noise when its got the positive on this side. See. It’s crap. And this is why the customers are locked out.

We had, we tried everything. I bought one out of the box. You saw this. I went to the local Big Box Hardware Store. I bought this, hooked it up. Just like our customer had a problem. I could not get it open. I had my nine volts. He was sitting there with his nine volts. We did not, I didn’t wanna, we did not get it open with the battery pack. We did not get it open from the front. And I tried everything. And in the end, what did do? We drilled it off the door. Cause we only got one door going into the pool room. And it didn’t work for me. And I just thought, maybe it was a faulty lock.

It was, it didn’t work. I couldn’t use my batteries. I couldn’t get it to work. And the customer had batteries too. But a lot of times we go to a lockout, the customer’s batteries, we put in our batteries and the customer is using old batteries. And so the lockout, look at this right here in the shop, having fired a round, right out of the box. You saw it, didn’t work. If a Weiser sees this, cause they know I pick on their products a lot. Let’s put, let’s go to Home Depot together, or Rona or wherever you want.

Let’s buy one of these, right out of the store. Okay, we’ll go together and let’s do this. And let’s see if this works. Hey, one more time. Try the other battery. Seems to like that one. How’d you like to be? I am a locksmith. How’d you like to be a homeowner and this is what’s happening to you? And you call me up in the middle of the night, we come out here, sometimes we take our battery or whatever, we open it up.

Weiser PowerBolt Problems

  • Poor Instructions
  • No Batteries Supplied
  • Battery Backup Failed

I don’t feel so bad now. Crappy user instructions, crappy lock. We know it works with the batteries, four user codes, 60-second lockout. This is why I don’t sell this at all. Because of the problems. I ran around, we grabbed a few more nine volts, stole one out of my smoke detector, it still doesn’t work.

In conclusion, I would not recommend this lock and I can see why locksmiths. It must be. I dunno, who knows, but I can’t recommend this, but I can see why it’s, why do locksmiths love these locks, cause we’re going out at night and daytime, and we are opening these. I have a video on my training site on how to totally bypass this, but it does require you to drill the lock and it destroys the lock.

Hopefully, that customer has taken that lock back and got the warranty out of it, cause it doesn’t work. I hope you enjoyed watching this video. Subscribe to my channel. Sending a locksmith the picture of a key can help us identify the key or lock. This may seem like a silly video, but it’s actually very important. I made the “How to Take a Picture of a Key” to help our customers.

  1. Take an in-focus picture of the key.
  2. Take a picture of both sides of the key.
  3. Remove any tape or obstruction covering the head of the key.
  4. If possible a picture of the end of the key.
  5. In-focus pictures of the key.

Key Copy Near Me

A lot of times customers ask Where can I get a “key copy near me’”  “I need my locks rekeyed.” or “Duplicate Key” and then they try to describe it to me. Sometimes they can, sometimes they can’t, sometimes there’s no information that you can see, but I can see. So, a lot of times we ask our customers “Take a picture, take an in-focus picture of the key.” So we ask our customers, email or just text me, a picture of your key. So this is how to take a picture of your key so I can see what you have. You gotta take both sides of the key. So take a picture there, so I can see what the make is, I can look at some of the grooves and then turn the key over and take a picture again, and then I can see from the other side I know it’s a Schlage, and on this I can see it’s a C123. So I can tell you “Yes I have that key.” So whatever key you have, whether it’s a car key, or house key, motorcycle, whatever, in focus, both sides of the key, then you can email it to me or a locksmith and we can tell you if we have that key.

Sometimes we’ve had people on fishing expeditions up north, they’ve taken their keys with them they’re in the middle up north, in the middle of nowhere, the wife is locked out, they have the key, and this one, we can actually see this one has a code, so we now know we can cut that by code and we can get that person in the house really quick and easy.

In conclusion, silly as it sounds “how to take a picture of a key”, in focus, both sides of the key, text or email, then we can tell you what you have. [email protected]
