My dad was installing similar locks to this 50+ years ago and this install is still very effective against Forced Entry Brute Force attacks and kick-ins. The door reinforcer that goes the front, the edge, and the back of the door makes it hard to kick in and the door twice as strong against Forced Entry. Door Reinforcement Deadbolt Lock

Contact us today to have an experienced locksmith assist you with your automotive locksmith situation!

You can see in the video how the door reinforcer goes right around the edge of the door, the back of the door. We have the good, Schlage 600 series deadbolt in there. It’s a commercial grade reinforce door with schlage deadbolt installation. Same locks used in hospitals, schools and Universities and it doesn’t look like a monster lock. It fits in well. Some people like the full plate down here. We never install the deadbolts below the handle, hate it. Deadbolts always go here or higher. This was just, we took out the old Weiser deadbolt, or light-duty deadbolt, we put in a heavy-duty deadbolt. And this will make the door harder to kick in and again some, some people sometimes ill put the full plate. This customer just wanted that plate and again the door is way harder to kick in-

The new Schlage Everest lock system has 6 pins. It’s got the side pin, really hard to pick, hard to bump and difficult to pick. Actually, we don’t have a good time picking these.

There is the plate. You have the 3-inch screw and screw all the way into the stud. It’s a well-built house so it’s got the good frame and now that will make the doorway harder to kick in Door Reinforcement Schlage Deadbolt Lock

We have so many break-ins in Maple Ridge Vancouver and the Lower Mainland we call this the “Maple Ridge Special.”  The Mr. Locksmith “Maple Ridge Special” is a Schlage heavy-duty, commercial-grade deadbolt or High-Security Abloy of Schlage Primus Deadbolt. Door Reinforcement

The Schlage C123 or S123 key and cylinder is a 6 pin Schlage and very hard to pick open but not impossible. It is not rated as pick-resistant. The one up, Schlage Primus lock is UL rated as pick resistant, drill resistant, but this a perfect Vancouver Special install. A higher quality lock would be the Abloy Protec 2 Deadbolt.

How to use the Lishi Kwikset Pick | Mr. Locksmith

How to use the Lishi Kwikset Pick | Mr. Locksmith

For further info and to sign up for my new On-LIne “How to Pick Locks” Course go to

Mr. Locksmith Maple Ridge

The KW1 is for picking and reading 5 pin Kwikset locks and the KW5 is for 6 pin Kwikset picks.

The KW1 and KW5 picked the sample Kwikset locks as expected. One of the major advantages of the new Lishi Picks will be the ability to read the depths of the lock once it is picked and you will be able to make a key. However, if the locks have Master or construction pins the key will unlock and lock the lock but maybe not any other locks in the building. The New Lishi KW1 / KW5 picks are not designed and will not open Kwikset Smart Locks, yet lol.

The Lishi picks are well built and have a nice feel to them.

Picking method is classic Single Pin Picking (SPP). I do not foresee any problems with security pins, just will require a slightly different method of SPP to open. Actually, on Kwikset locks, I find them very easy to SPP security pins. (the binding pins cry out to be picked lol).

The new Mr. Lishi picks are expected to retail for $120 US each.

Mr. Lishi will soon release the Schlage SC1 5 pin and Schlage SC4 6 pin picks soon too.

Subscribe to my channel so you will get an update when I post the video of the new KW1 and KW5 in real field tests.

Terry Whin-Yates is a 3rd Generation Locksmith with a BA (Hons) Criminology. He has 35 years experience in the locksmith and security industry and is a locksmith trainer providing On-LIne and Hands-On locksmith training to people, businesses and Law Enforcement all across North America and Asia. Terry Whin-Yates‘ BC Security License is B4227.

Lishi is a very good tool for locksmiths to figure out, because you have to use a Lishi tool and most the application you’re basically feeling the wafers, you’re going the binding wafer, you pick that one first and then you can go for the next binding wafer. That’s how you use the Mr. Lishi tools for automotive. They’ve come out with fantastic tools, they’ve come out with four tools now. One for 5-pin quick set, the 6-pin quick set, also the 5-pin Schlage, and the 6-pin Schlage.

So you can get KW1, KW5, or KW10 I will call it. The SC1 and the SC4. I had the pleasure of testing some of the prototypes. The tools made my Mr. Lishi, I tested the 5-pin and the 6-pin Mr. Lishi tools on quick set rocks, and they say it’ll do whether it has mushroom or spool pins or whatever. It’s exactly the same as when you’re using regular picks. You put the tool in and you’re feeling for which pin is binding first.

Single Pin Picking, SPP, or they like to call the field method or the French method. We’ll call it the SPP for today. Because of the tolerances within the lock and the inaccuracies of machining, we will find um let’s take a 5-pin one of the pins will be binding, and that’s the pin you pick first. And the tool is fantastic because it has all your spacing for quick set and the depths and we know they go most of the quick sets go 1 to 6. So you can feel with the tool you can find exactly which one is binding. You pick that one and then find your next one. So it’s not always 1-2-3-4-5, it could be the 3rd, the 5th, the 4th, the 2nd. You just remember which one’s binding first, and it’s not the same in all locks, because of the different machining processes.

Two reasons I love this tool: One, It’s going to teach how to become a better lock picker, because you’re gonna know exactly where you are to feel the binding pin, and the second thing is, my biggest pain in the butt for pick is 6-pin Schlage. With the SC4 tool, I didn’t have a chance to test that. I’ve got all the tools coming soon as their released, suppose to be sometime in March 2019, I will be doing a video right away.

2 points: 1 if you have many locks you can now make the key and it’ll open all the locks and then you can re-key them or do whatever the customer wants. The other thing is this is going to be fantastic for law enforcement and police. You can pick the lock on-site, make a key, and then leave.

Lishi’s calling this their Residential Original Lishi Tools by Mr. Lishi. Their 2-in-1 picks, they work and I hadn’t had a chance to try the Schlage I am looking forward to that. Lots of new videos coming soon.

Here’s something interesting. A lot of people are saying, “Oh this is a game changer, this is a fantastic tool.” Let’s get right to the facts here. Kwikset five pin deadbolts, the pin tumbler deadbolts, are the easiest locks in the world almost to pick. I can show you in 10 to 15 minutes you’re going to be able to pick these things and if you practice you’re going to be really good. This is not a game changer. There have been some tools available to law enforcement that did something similar. However, this is an inexpensive tool and it’s really cool, but here’s what I think about what it’s great for. It will give you the ability to learn to do single pin picking or SPP picking better.

You practice on the inexpensive locks and they have some other tools coming out, which will be for other locks, and they’ve already had one released in Australia for quite a while. It’s an interesting tool, it’s really cool, but it’s not going to turn a lousy picker who can’t pick a lock. You can’t just pick this thing up and pick instantly. I can show you in minutes how to pick Kwiksets and if you practice you can pick them.

This just can make your skillset better for picking. A set of picks or bobby pins or whatever, or whatever you want to use can pick a Kwikset no problem at all. These are simple locks. Doesn’t matter what they do. They can put in mushroom pins, spool pins, security pins, anything you want, these are simple, simple, simple. Same as the Weisers, simple, simple, simple. The Lishi pick cool, but not really a game changer. You can’t just buy this thing and you’ll be a great lock picker, you have to practice. I’m incorporating it into my training videos because I think this thing is great to help you get the feel. Because what it does, it shows you the exact position where the pins are and your exact depths, so you’re going to get a feel.

If you’re doing single pin picking you want to find that binding pin and this will help you develop that ability to sort of pick it. You’re going to know exactly where you are, but it will make you a better lock picker on the more complicated locks. This is just a tool, a training tool, but you can also use it to pick locks. Would I use this to pick as a locksmith, to go to a job and pick? Not really because o Kwiksets, if it’s a Kwikset it isn’t going to pick it. It’s so simple and easy. I’m going rake it, I’ll have this thing open in seconds, under a minute for sure unless it’s a malfunction then it’s going to give me other problems, and I’m talking about the Kwikset pin tumbler, not the SmartKey locks. These smart locks have an entire pile of security vulnerabilities. These are just dead simple to pick, and there’s not a single locksmith out there who’ll say these are tough to pick.

Is this a game changer? No way. It’s cool, it’s a useful tool, I like it, I’ll own their whole set. I own their automotive set. I think we have every single Lishi pick there is for Mr. Lishi or the other Lishi companies. We have the tools. This is just a great training aid and I firmly believe it and I’ll show you why. The other thing that is, I will admit is a bit of a game changer, is once you pick it you can actually read the pins. I can pick the lock, read the depths, so I can take this, cut it on my code machine, cut the key, and I’ve got a perfect key to fit this lock. That’s going to be a problem for a lot of people if someone can make a key and they don’t know it. That’s why you don’t put this on anything important. If you have a business or a house you don’t put a Kwikset pin tumbler on your house. It can be broken into so easily.

Terry: Whether it’s picked covert, overt, forced entry, you don’t put this on your house and the company realized that and that’s why they’ve come up with a new and improved design. When you get this stuff that they’ve been selling for 50 years it’s not a game changer. Also what’s more important, and they say, “Oh don’t do videos on this, blah, blah, blah.” The company itself, there’s a video out there by Mr. Lishi picking the lock. How can you say locksmiths don’t show this or the lock sport don’t show this? The owner of the company has a video that’s public that you can watch. What’s the big secret?

Kwikset or not, high security locks no way are they high security locks, super easy. If I’m ranting I’m ranting okay. Even the company, I could go down and take pictures and use the lock but they wouldn’t let me do a video until I had my own and I’ll do a video. Now let’s get to showing how this works, and so how I think is cool. Again, super easy to pick this lock. This is a no brainer to pick. The Lishi will help you skills. We’ll call it single pin picking, SPP, or the French method, the feel method this is cool.

Lishi KW5 Kwikset Pick

Here’s the Lishi, KW1 two in one pick for five pin Kwiksets. Now I pulled the little tool, the little pick all the way back, gently insert it, you get right up to the shoulder, here’s a tension wrench, tension part, again be very gentle. What I’m feeling is which pin is binding? Kind of go almost one, two, three, four. You can see where it’s springy there. It’s kind of cool, you can hear it nicely. There we go. Really simple. Once we’ve picked it, and again I just took this out of the box, threw it on there. This is nothing special. But what’s kind of interesting is now we’ve got it, it’s a four, five, four, six, what is that? Can’t quite see. That’s the space, that’s the spot we’re at, and there’s the depths.

That’s cool, and now I can key by code. It’s a good practice. If you want to learn single pin picking this is a very, very good tool. This is a Mr. Lishi. It’s just an inexpensive tool in the scheme of things, and it does the trick very, very nice. Let’s take the tool out and I’m just going to … This is Weiser’s, which in Canada is extremely popular. These are training locks. This has only got one pin in it. Now a Kwikset key will fit into a Weiser lock, but this is not geared for it. What’s kind of cool is … Oh geez. Like I said, that’s just ready to pick. This one is slightly harder. I really don’t care where it is, I’m just feeling which pin is binding. Oh look at that, so I got to be careful this is a brand new tool. Here we go. All we’re doing is which one’s binding? I really don’t care what position. I just want to feel … That one’s binding. There you go, hear that. There we go.

This is a fun tool and it reads, which sometimes when you have multiple locks it’s nice to make a key quickly and you can open up the other locks, and it just shows you some huge security vulnerabilities. That’s why we sell a lot of the high security locks like Abloy, and Medeco, and the Primus. We sell a lot of high security locks because these are so easy to pick. We have key control in the high security locks, but you stop the amateurs who can pick those inexpensive locks quickly. Let’s not even talk about the stuff that’s coming in from Offshore Locks. This will be interesting. I’m going to play with the tool on the clones of the Kwiksets and let’s see how it does on the SmartKey locks. Interesting thing with the SmartKey locks is they use a sidebar, they don’t really have a sheer line like a pin tumbler.

This is going to be kind of fun to experiment with this with other locks it’ll fit in. Of course it’s not going to fit into the Schlage or Schlage. It’s not going to fit into a lot of other locks. It’ll do the Kwiksets for sure and it’ll do Weiser. Not meant to do Weisers but it did. Stay tuned for more videos, we’re going to have lots of fun with this.

There is a lot of electric picks to choose from. Also, lots of garbage out there. In my opinion, it boils down to these three, and it really depends upon your budget, and what you’re doing.

DINO: It is Chinese made. It is the Dino and is very good. It’s really nice holding a pick, gun-style. I like this. It’s offshore made, I sort of have some problems with that, but it’s held up pretty good in the classroom, with lots of locksmith students. So this is a good choice. You can check my links online. It’s a good product. It’s okay, I like it. I do use it.

KRONOS: This is the Kronos, made in Germany. This is phenomenal. It’s actually extremely well-made. It’s very, very effective. This is gonna last you a long time in your kit. I have no problems at all with the quality, how it’s made. I love the battery in this. It’s absolutely fantastic. It’s good for an hour after you charge it, and you get two batteries. You’re good for two hours of picking. That’s gonna last you a good week, or a couple weeks depending upon how busy you are. It’s great. It’s very well made, and it holds nicely. I love it.

WENDT: The Rolls-Royce is the Wendt. It’s good for almost any lock in the world. It’s got a lot of adjustments. It’s extremely expensive. For service trucks, with locksmiths, you can’t go wrong with this. For the price, and everything else, this is it. What I would recommend, everybody has this one. This is good, but again I don’t like the quality of most offshore stuff. The Germans make fantastic picks, electric picks.

The Kronos is the go-to for in the truck, every day, in my toolbox. When I’ve got those jobs that are very high-end, that have to go in, of course, I’ve got this, but this is my backup for everything else. If you have to worry about different parts of the world, this is it. They’re great, but they’re not meant for covert. There are some special models that are quiet, but for the locksmiths, it even Locksport. These things put everything to shame. This is my number one chase for locksmiths, or if you are into Locksport, if you can cheat and get away with this.

For locksmiths, we are not cheating. We just want to get in, we’re for profit. They’re all moneymakers. They will make you money. And I think these two will last you a long time, Let’s see how they do against a wide range of locks from all over the world.

Gun Safe Recalled Over Lock Failure

Gun Safe Recalled Over Lock Failure

For further info go to Mr. Locksmith Maple Ridge.

A gun safe has been recalled because of a malfunction that allows it to be opened without a key or combination. The recall is for the Stack-On Sentinel model safe made by Alpha Guardian.

According to the Consumer Product and Safety Commission, a bolt malfunction can cause the safe to open without the use of a key combination. That lock failure allows access to any firearms stored inside, posing a safety hazard.

The black steel safe has the name “Sentinel” on it. The style number FSS18-64-MB-E-S can be found on the shipping packaging.

A gun safe sold at Dick’s Sporting Goods stores nationwide in November and December 2018 is being recalled due to an issue with the safe’s locking mechanism, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says.

Alpha Guardian has received one report of the safe opening without the use of a key or combination, which would mean someone could access the guns stored inside without authorization, the CPSC said.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission reported that Alpha Guardian has announced a recall on its Stack-On Gun Safes due to a possible bolt malfunction which could result in failure to lock and possible injury and said consumers should immediately stop using the safe and contact Alpha Guardian for information on receiving a replacement safe or a full refund.

The mishap causes the safe to open without a key or combination.

The style number is FSS18-64-MB-E-S and can be found on the shipping packaging.

The safes were sold at Dick’s Sporting Goods stores nationwide from November 2018 through December 2018 for about $700.

Consumers are asked to stop using the safes immediately and contact Alpha Guardian at 833-255-9827, at [email protected] or online for a full refund or replacement

This is one of my puzzle locks and it is fun to open. The solid brass puzzle padlock is made of solid brass and weighs 1 kilogram.

To open it is more complex than it appears; it requires a more careful inspection to unlock it. Find the right combination of moves and keys to open it. The lock is handmade and from India.

The puzzle locks were originally made if you were an apprentice locksmith, to prove your skills, you had to make a lock, a chest or a lock or padlock, and three master locksmiths would evaluate your lock. One of the main points was how quickly they could open your lock.

Castration Rings for Locksmiths! Bump Keys! Mr. Locksmith Video

Castration Rings for Locksmiths! Bump Keys! Mr. Locksmith Video

For further info and to purchase Bump Keys go to Mr. Locksmith Maple Ridge

Bump Keys: My Grandfather was a locksmith and he called it “Rapping a Cylinder” today we call it “Bumping a Lock” with “Bump Keys.”

When bumping a lock, the key is initially inserted into the keyway the “Castration Rings” helps to keep the Bump Key one notch (pin) short of full insertion.

Bump Keys Castration Rings

Bumping the key inward forces it deeper into the keyway. The bump key transmits a slight impact force to all of the key pins in the lock. The key pins transmit this force to the driver pins; the key pins stay in place.

The pin movements are highly elastic, the driver pins “jump” from the key pins for a nanosecond, moving higher than the cylinder (shear line of the tumbler), then are pushed normally back by the spring to sit against the key pins once again. Even though this separation only lasts only a nanosecond with a light rotational force or tension is continuously applied to the key during the slight impact, the cylinder will turn during the short separation time at the shear of the pins, and the lock can be opened while the driver pins are elevated above the shear line.

Lock bumping takes only an instant to open the lock. The lock is not visibly damaged, although the force of the bump can leave an indentation on the front of the cylinder.

Wondering how to become a locksmith? Head down to your local supermarket and buy a box of Cracker Jack.

These are important requirements to become a BC Licensed locksmith with a BC Security License from BC Security Licensing.

– Not presently be incarcerated.
– Not recently been convicted of molesting the dead
– Have Cheque payable to “Province of BC” or buy a box of Cracker Jack

Applying for a BC Security Worker Licence

Wondering how to get a free locksmith license? No need to apply. Your BC Security License inside of your box of Cracker Jack is already prefilled. Just write in your name, and paste on a picture of yourself and tada, you’re now a BC licensed locksmith in the eyes of BC Security Licensing.

BC Security Licensing says you can apply online for a new security worker license or renew, update, or replace an existing license. This is the fastest way to apply for your licence. But that’s not true! The quickest way to apply for a BC Security License is to be digging inside a box of Cracker Jack and taking your crayon and writing your name on it. It’s as simple as that. Lost the crayon? Fingerpainting is also acceptable.

Renewing, Replacing, or Updating a BC Security Licence

No need to renew your BC Security License as it never expires, no matter how much of a criminal you are. All you need to do is dig into that lovely box of Cracker Jack and fill it out and stick on a selfie and you’re now a fully licensed BC locksmith. If you need to replace your BC Security License, just buy another box of Cracker Jack and take the included crayon and draw your name in. Qualifying for a BC Security Worker Licence

Again, there are no qualifications required. The only thing you need to know how to do is use a crayon or fingerpaint. Don’t know how to pick a lock? That’s ok! Don’t know how to use a screwdriver? That’s ok too! Don’t even know how to use a hammer? That’s fine! All you need to know how to do again is fingerpaint, use a crayon and open your box of Cracker Jack.

BC Security Licensing states that you need to verify who you are with the following information:

However, if you bought a box of Cracker Jack, that’s not required! You can apply for a BC Security License just by getting a box of Cracker Jack, no qualifications required!
